It is important to leave traditional solution approach behind and use new solutions with advanced technology. Now it is possible to get cost savings immediately by stopping use of quickly ageing lead-acid batteries and diesel generators by replacing them by solution with new approach. Measured results provided by BluES energy system

The diesel run time and related cost saving were demonstrated by comparing diesel generator's run hours before and after BluES system has been taken in use. Traditional lead-acid system had the average daily DG runtime of more than 12 hours. After change to BluES system, the DG runtime was reduced to 4 hours 52 mins (more than 7 hours shorter), which is 60% less than with traditional system.

 Traditional system was calculated to consume over 11.000 litres diesel yearly, when BluES system requires less than 4.500 litres.  The difference is a less than 7000 litres per site on yearly level, i.e. respectively 60 % less. In Myanmar, this translates to yearly saving of 4 kUSD per site – in a case of 1000 sites in similar conditions the saving scales up to 40 MUSD per year! DG consumption of 2,5 litres per hour was used in the calculations.

When the fuel consumption is translated in carbon emissions, with traditional system these are almost three times bigger. This means emission of 29,4 tons CO2 with traditional system, with BluES system only 10,9 tons CO2.

System CAPEX should not be the only decision criteria when purchasing energy systems, lowest total cost of ownership can be reached by investing in quality power systems. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) calculations show the difference: 10-YEAR-TCOtraditional systems based on lead acid batteries provide initial investment but much higher total TCO. With systems embedded with advanced lithium-ion batteries an initial investment may be higher, but the payback is typically 1 to 2 years. The relative difference is illustrated in the graph on the right, which presents TCO of 10 years of an off-grid site with 2 kW equipment load.
